Railroads
Plattsmouth to Lincoln via Ashland was completed in 1870 (UNL)
The Chicago, Burlington & Quincy opened a line to Ashland from Omaha in 1887 (UNL) as well as a branch line connecting Ashland to Schuyler that same year. (UNL) The Ashland to Schuyler Branch line opened October 24, 1887 and was 51 miles long. (Morton and Watkins)
In 1941 the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railroad abandoned the line between Schuyler and Prague. Rail shipments of grain continued between Prague and Ashland, but passenger service was discontinued. Burlington Northern (successor of CB&Q) abandoned the remainder of the line in 1982. (UNL - Prague)
The Sioux City Subdivision of the Burlington Northern and Santa Fe goes north from Ashland to Sioux City via Fremont.
The BNSF Omaha and Creston Subdivisions also go through Ashland.
