In 1887 Chicago, Burlington and Quincy extended a branch from Ashland to Schuyler, Nebraska. It opened October 24 of that year and was 51 miles long. (Morton and Watkins)
Passenger trains ran six days a week on the line, which also carried consumer goods and farm products. (Railfan.net)
In 1941 the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railroad abandoned 19 miles of track between Schuyler and Prague (UNL - Prague) after service began to slip. A flood in June of 1982 damaged the Salt Creek bridge at Ashland after which Burlington Northern (the successor to CBQ) abandoned the other 31 miles. (Railfan.net)
