Established in 1870 Schuyler is currently served by the Union Pacific and in the past was also served by Chicago, Burlington and Quincy.

Railroads

The Union Pacific currently runs through Schuyler between Fremont and Columbus on what is refered to as the Overland Route. It is along this track that the Transcontinental Railroad reached the area between 1866 (after it reached Fremont) and June 1868 (when it reached Columbus). (UP) When the depot was established by the UP it was "Shell Creek Station" and serviced the nearby town of Buchanan. (UNL - Schuyler)

In 1887 Chicago, Burlington and Quincy extended a branch from Ashland to Schuyler, Nebraska. It opened October 24 of that year and was 51 miles long. (Morton and Watkins). The Burlington crossed the Platte River at 97.05 Lon, 41.41 Lat (Google Maps) and bordered the east side of town along F Street where it then met up with the Union Pacific (USGS Maps). The Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railroad abandoned the line between Schuyler and Prague in 1941. (UNL - Prague)
